Olympic Champion Rebecca Adlington Opens New £5.6m Pool at Farringdon Community Academy

2 mins read

We love sharing big moments for swimming in our communities, and this week we’ve got a great one!

Our very own 4x Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington OBE, one of Britain’s most celebrated swimmers, was on hand to officially open the new £5.6 million swimming pool at Farringdon Community Academy in Sunderland. 🎉

The brand new pool is part of a wider investment in sports and learning facilities for the school, creating an exciting space for students, and potentially increasing opportunities for local families to enjoy swimming and water-based activities. The opening marked a special moment for pupils and staff alike, celebrating the impact that great facilities can have on confidence, fitness and lifelong water skills. Although we don’t have all the quotes here, the full Sunderland Echo article captures Rebecca’s thoughts on the impact this community pool will have.

A brand-new pool for our swim@ families

We’re also really excited that our swim@ Farringdon Academy members are now learning and developing their skills in this fantastic new pool.

While lessons are already well underway, we’re hoping families are loving the fresh, modern environment and the opportunities it creates for children to build confidence in the water. New facilities like this make a huge difference to the swimming experience, and it’s great to see our swimmers benefiting from such a positive investment in local sport and education.

Why facilities like this matter

New pools don’t just look great, they help create a welcoming space where children can feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. Investment like this supports lifelong water confidence, wellbeing, and enjoyment, both in and out of the classroom.

We’re are proud to see Rebecca using her voice to support local access to swimming, and it’s brilliant to see investment in facilities that will benefit young people for years to come.
